Chapter Committees

Each standing committee shall have a committee chairperson, who leads and supervises the activities of the standing committee. Our chapter standing committees are as follows:

Awards

The Awards Committee will solicit/seek out nominations for AFCEA International and/or Chapter Awards. The Executive Committee will approve criteria developed for Chapter Awards before solicitation for candidates. Other Awards will comply with the criteria established by AFCEA International. The Executive Committee must approve all nominations for awards.

Education & Scholarships

The Education & Scholarships Committee shall develop criteria to accept and review applications for scholarship/grant support to be awarded by the Chapter. The Executive Committee shall approve criteria developed for scholarship competition before solicitation of candidates. The recommendation(s) of the Education & Scholarships Committee for scholarship support to be awarded shall be presented to the Executive Committee for approval. Scholarship awards shall be announced after the award at a regular membership meeting. The recipient(s) and not more than two guests shall be invited to attend the scholarship presentation luncheon as guests of the Chapter to receive their scholarship awards; additionally, if approved by the Executive Committee. The Chapter will provide a paid Annual Membership in AFCEA for each scholarship/grant recipient. Serve as the focal point for the Teacher/Science Program, the Science Fair, STEM Teacher Scholarships, and any new scholarship/educational programs. Coordinate with AFCEA Education Foundation to identify and execute collaborative opportunities.

Emerging Leaders

The Emerging Leaders include young AFCEAN members aged 40 or younger. The Emerging Leaders Committee shall act as the Liaison to Chapter membership and the Chapter Executive Committee on behalf of all young AFCEAN members. The committee shall look out for the welfare and promote the professional development of all young AFCEANs of the Chapter and encourage and promote the participation of young AFCEANs in Chapter activities. Additionally, the committee will propose and oversee approved functions for young AFCEANs, including professional development trips, community service events, and attendance at AFCEA International-sponsored events.

Government Liaison

The Government Liaison encourages and promotes participation in Chapter activities by active duty military, reserves, and government civilians from the area Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Space Force Communities. In addition, track attendance of the community at Chapter events.

Publicity

The Publicity Committee shall be responsible for publicizing Chapter events. Associated duties include ensuring articles and photos for national publications, such as Signal Magazine are written and submitted in the prescribed format and before all deadlines. Ensure photographic coverage for all AFCEA events for posting on the Chapter website, social media. Write and publish press releases as appropriate to deliver coverage and awareness of AFCEA events. Provides monthly luncheon/event summary for posting on the Chapter website.

Small Business

The Small Business Committee will act as the Liaison between the Chapter and the AFCEA International Executive Committee for Small Business by representing the Chapter at monthly meetings. Act as the POC for small business corporations and table sponsors for the Chapter and disseminate relevant AFCEA small business topics of interest. Organize and maintain a small business directory to highlight and encourage small business participation in the Chapter. Organize and host small business workshops for Chapter-sponsored events (e.g., TechNet, SDVOSB Conference, etc.).

STEM Outreach

The STEM Outreach Committee shall plan, arrange, and conduct the Chapter’s STEM Outreach Program. The Chairperson for the STEM Outreach Committee shall establish and maintain a relationship with local STEM-focused organizations to support and ensure all details relating to the various Chapter STEM programs and events are accomplished (e.g., guest speakers, training, volunteerism, mentorship, scholarship support, sponsorship, etc.).

Ways & Means

The Ways and Means Committee focuses on raising the funds needed to meet the Chapter’s budget and shall be responsible for planning, organizing, arranging, and conducting the Chapter’s fundraising events and functions. The Ways and Means Committee Chairperson shall ensure all the details relating to various Chapter fundraising events and functions are accomplished (e.g., golf tournament, bowling tournament, luncheon raffles, etc.). The Ways and Means Committee Chairperson shall have the authority to appoint individual event chairpersons.

Website & Technology

Manage and administer the Chapter website and digital communications platforms. Serve as Liaison to technology service providers. Provide training to content providers. Manage change requests from committee heads for implementation of technology changes. Provide expertise on evolving technology that can be used to further the Chapter’s goals (e.g., social media mobile applications). Establish policy and guidance, which the executive committee will approve for the use of provided technology services.
